Fritz Freisler

The director and writer Fritz Freisler took acting lessons by Albert Heine before he began his stage career at the Volkstheater in Munich in 1903. It followed engagements in Görlitz, Bielefeld and finally in Berlin where he met Oskar Messter.

Messter brought Fritz Freisler to the film business and he realised his first movie as a director with "Ein Wiedersehen im Feindesland" (15).
In the next years he realised a number of other movies as a director like "Doktor Eisenbart" (15), "Der Mann ohne Kopf" (17), "Der Brief einer Toten" (17), "Er amüsiert sich" (18), "Das andere Ich" (18), "Der Mandarin" (18), "Der Umweg zur Ehe" (19) and "Die Hindernisehe" (19).

His last works as a director came in the silent movie era of the 20s into being with "Der Henker von Sankt Marien" (20), "Die Schuldigen" (22), "Irrlichter der Tiefe" (23) with the legendary Anita Berber, "Hoheit tanzt Walzer" (26), "Der König der Mittelstürmer" (27) and "Dorine und der Zufall" (28).

Also from 1915 Fritz Freisler wrote numerous screenplays, sometimes for his own movies, sometimes for other directors.
To these works belong "Ein Wiedersehen im Feindesland" (15), "Fürst Seppl" (15), "Die Liebe einer Blinden" (17), "Licht und Finsternis" (18), "Don Juans letztes Abenteuer" (18) and "Der Mandarin" (18).

He continued to write screenplays in the 20s for "Der Henker vo Sankt Marien" (20), "Hoheit tanzt Walzer" (26) and "Dorine und er Zufall" (28).

Fritz Freisler wrote his last screenplays in the sound film era of the 30s with "Fasse dich kurz" (32), "Bitte ein Autogramm!" (34) and "Petersburger Nächte" (35).

Besides his activity as a director and screenwriter he also appeared in front of the camera for the production "Die Brandstifter Europas" (26).
