The actor Paul Cavanagh studied law at che University of Cambridge
and afterwards worked as a barrister. Later he went to Canada where he
joined the Royal Canadian Mounties.
Finally he returned to England where he continued to work for the law
before he lost his savings by bad luck.
Thereupon he decided in 1924 to follow a complete new direction and
become an actor. In the next years he took part in many stage plays, among
others in "Scotland Yard" (29) on Broadway.
He made his film debut at the end of the silent movie era and in the
next years he often impersonated the representative English Gentleman in
many well-known productions.
To his first movies belong "Two Little Drummer Boys" (28), "Tesha" (28)
und "The Runaway Princess" (29).
Paul Cavanagh became a demanded support actor in the 30s who acted at
the side of many great stars of that time.
To his popular productions belong "The Storm" (30), "Unfaithful" (31),
"The Squaw Man" (31), "The Kennel Murder Case" (33), "Uncertain Lady" (34),
"Tarzan and His Mate" (34), "Escapade" (35), "Crime Over London" (36) and
"Reno" (39).
The 40s and 50s offered him again numerous engagements, among them some
Sherlock-Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone und Nigel Bruce, whereat at
the end of his career television became a more and more important role.
