Der Produzent Trem Carr bildete sozusagen den Gegenpol zu den grossen
Major-Studios von Hollywood. Im Gegensatz zu den vielen Budgetmillionen
seiner Konkurrenz produzierte er billigere Filme mit weniger grossen Stars
- meist mit Western-Filmen.
Begonnen hatte Trem Carr seine Filmlaufbahn mit seiner eigenen Produktionsfirma,
welche er 1926 gründete.
Er produzierte in den kommenden Jahren Filme wie "The Show Girl" (27),
"Prince of the Plains" (27), "Wild Born" (27), "The Branded Man" (28),
"The Divine Sinner" (28), "The Black Pearl" (28) und "The Phantom in the
House" (29).
1931 schloss er sich mit W. Ray Johnston bei Monogram Pictures zusammen
und war von 1931 bis 1935 Produktionsleiter von Monogram - seine eigene
Produktionsgesellschaft blieb aber bis 1939 weiter aktiv. Trem Carr zeichnete
sich verantwortlich für Filme wie "Rider of the Plains" (31), "Partners
of the Trail" (31), "The Montana Kid" (31), "Oklahoma Jim" (31), "Ghost
City" (32), "Law of the West" (32), "Vanishing Men" (32), "Hidden Valley"
(32), "The Diamond Trail" (33), "The Fugitive" (33), "The Mystery Man"
(35) und "Two Sinners" (35).
1935 wurde Monogram übernommen und eine neue Produktionsgesellschaft
namens "Republic Pictures" wurde gegründet - unter der Herrschaft
von Herbert J. Yates. Bereits 1937 zeigte sich eine derart grosse Kluft
zwischen Carr, Johnston und Yates, dass sowohl Carr als auch Johnston das
Studio verliessen und kurzzeitig für Universal Filme produzierten,
ehe sie Monogram Pictures wieder ins Leben riefen.
Bereits in diesem Jahr konnten sie 20 Filme produzieren.
In seinen letzten 10 Lebensjahren realisierte Trem Carr Filme wie "Adventure's
End" (37), "The Spy Ring" (38), "Border Wolves" (38), "Air Devils" (38),
"Black Bandit" (38), "The Phantom Stage" (39), "Women in Bondage" (43),
"Hot Rhythm" (44) und "Divorce" (45).
Trem Carr verstarb 1946 unerwartet an einem Herzinfarkt - er wurde nur
55 Jahre alt.
