Karl Swinburne

The actor Karl Swinburne was born as Carl Junge-Swinburne in Westpreussen.

He began his theater career about 1900 and his engagements led him via Aachen and Magdeburg to Berlin. In Berlin he seldom played leading roles, normally he was engaged for smaller parts.

He joined the film business in 1927 and he made his screen debut with "Richthofen, der rote Ritter der Luft" (27). It followed other silent movies with "Der lebende Leichnam" (28) and "Der alte Fritz" (28).

In the sound film era of the 30s and early 40s Karl Swinburne became a demanded support actor and he often impersonated authoritarian characters.
To his well-known movies of those years belong "M" (31) directed by Fritz Lang, "Zwei himmelblaue Augen" (32), "Verräter" (36), "Eine Frau ohne Bedeutung" (36), "Donner, Blitz und Sonnenschein" (36), "Tango Notturno" (37), "Frau Sylvelin" (38), "Ein Mann auf Abwegen" (40), "Der dunkle Punkt" (40), "...reitet für Deutschland" (41), "Meine Frau Teresa" (42) and "Romanze in Moll" (43).

Karl Swinburne did not act in movies again after the war but he remained active on stage for several years.
