The actor Ernst Petersen studied natural science and architecture and he worked successfully as an architect after his education, among others in Ankara. Some of his buildings are still existing and some of them are even listed buildings. He created numerous buildings for the company Henkel, the family of his wife. He was also active for the board of directors at times.
Because his uncle was the famous movie director Arnold Fanck he joined the film business in the 20s and he impersonated several role in popular mountain movies which were all directed by Arnold Fanck except one.
Ernst Petersen impersonated in his first movie the role of Vigo in "Der heilige Berg" (26) with Leni Riefenstahl, Luis Trenker, Frida Richard and Hannes Schneider.
Afterwards he was Hadwo in Mario Bonnard's und Nunzio Malasomma's "Der Kampf ums Matterhorn" (28) at the side of Luis Trenker, Marcella Albani, Clifford McLaglen, Peter Voss, Paul Graetz, Hannes Schneider and Heinrich Gretler and in "Die weisse Hölle vom Piz Palü" (29) he played the role of Hans Brandt with Gustav Diessl, Leni Riefenstahl, Ernst Udet and Kurt Gerron.
His last movie was "Stürme über dem Mont Blanc" (30) with Leni Riefenstahl, Sepp Rist, Ernst Udet, Mathias Wieman, Friedrich Kayssler, Alfred Beierle and Beni Führer.
