Dranem

The actor Dranem was born as Armand Menard in Paris.

He began his artistic career in 1894 and used the pen name Dranem - his real family name written backwards.

In the next years he became a popular variety artist with partially absurd comic appearances.

Finally he was contracted by the Eldorado Club in 1899 where he remained active for the next 20 years.

Thank to his huge popularity he was also one of the first who appeared in front of the camera for the French film business.
His first movies already came in 1901 into being with "Le salut de Dranem" (01) and "Le saint de Dranem" (01), it next years followed other movies like "L'assassinat de Mac Kinley" (02), "Ma tante" (03), "Le mitron" (04), "Le trou de mon quai" (05), "L'enfant du cordonnier" (05), "Le rêve de Dranem" (06) and "Les souliers de Dranem" (08).

He continued his film career in the 10s and 20s successfully and he impersonated roles in silent movies like "Le mariage de Dranem" (12), "Le médecin malgré lui" (13), "Dranem amoureux de Cléopâtre" (16), "La clé do voûte" (25) and "J'ai l'noir ou le suicide de Dranem" (29).

The transition to the sound film was no problem for him and he was regular engaged. He often had the chance to use his singing abilities as well.
To his last cinematical works belong "Il est charmant" (32), "Miche" (32), "Monsieur Albert" (32), "La poule" (33), "Un soir de réveillon" (33), "Ciboulette" (33), "La guerre des valses" (33), "Monsieur Sand-Gêne" (35) and "Las mascotte" (35).
