Die Schauspielerin Anita Stewart debütierte bereits im Alter von
16 Jahren beim Film, zunächst als Statistin, bald schon in kleineren
Rollen.
Zu ihren ersten Filmen gehören "A Tale of Two Cities" (11), "The
Battle Hymn of the Republic" (11), "Her Choice" (12) und "Song of the Shell"
(12).
Ab 1913 wurden ihre Rollen immer grösser und schliesslich wurde
sie bei Vitagraph in der zweiten Hälfte der 10er Jahre zu einem beliebten
Filmstar.
Zu ihren bekanntesten Filmen dieser Jahre gehören "The Web" (13),
"The Forgotten Latchkey" (13), "The Moulding" (13), "The Tiger" (13), "The
Treasure of Desert Isle" (13), "The Swan Girl" (13), "A Million Bid" (14),
"The Sins of the Mothers" (14), "The Juggernaut" (15), "The Goddess" (15),
"The Combat" (16), "Clover's Rebellion" (17), "Virtuous Wives" (18), "Mary
Regan" (19) und "Human Desire" (19).
Sie konnte ihre Popularität auch in den 20er Jahren aufrechterhalten
und agierte in den Produktionen "The Fighting Shepherdess" (20), "The Invisible
Fear" (21), "A Question of Honor" (22), "The Great White Way" (24), "The
Boomerang" (25), "The Lodge in the Wilderness" (26), "Wild Geese" (27)
und "Romance of a Rogue" (28).
Der aufkommende Tonfilm beendete schliesslich ihre Laufbahn, nach einem
Auftritt in "The Hollywood Handicap" (32) trat sie aus dem Filmgeschäft
zurück.
Neben ihrer Aktivität als Schauspielerin war Anita Stewart eine
der wenigen Frauen, die auch als Produzentin ihrer eigenen Filme in den
Jahren 1918 bis 1922 in Erscheinung trat, u.a. für Louis B. Mayer.
Anita Stewart war mit dem Schauspieler Rudolph Cameron verheiratet.
