Die Schauspielerin Mignon Anderson gehörte zu den frühen Filmstars
des amerikanischen Stummfilms und sie genoss vor allem in der ersten
Hälfte der 10er Jahre eine grosse Popularität.
Da bereits ihre
Eltern aus Bühnenschauspieler tätig waren, lag die Berufswahl der
Schauspielerei bei ihr nahe. Schon als Baby hatte sie im Alter von 6
Monaten einen ersten Bühnenauftritt. Als Jugendliche folgten weitere
Theaterengagements.
Mit 18 Jahren begann sie ihre Filmlaufbahn mit
"The Winter's Tale" (10) und in den kommenden Jahren avancierte sie zu
einer vielbeschäftigten Filmschauspielerin.
Zu ihren zahlreichen
Filmen zählen "Robet Emmett" (11), "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" (11),
"David Copperfield" (11), "Nicholas Nickleby" (12), "Dora Thorne" (12),
"The Merchant of Venice" (12), "Miss Robinson Crusoe" (12), "The
Thunderbolt" (12), "A Mystery of Wall Street" (13), "Sherlock Holmes
Solves the Sign of the Four" (13), "The Patriot" (13), "Robin Hood"
(13), "Two Little Dromios" (14), "Guilty or Not Guilty" (14), "Rivalry"
(14), "The Million Dollar Mystery" (14), "The Messenger of Death" (14),
"The Terror of Anger" (14), "The Reformation of Peter and Paul" (15),
"The Girl of the Sea" (15) und "The Price of Her Silence" (15).
In der 2. Hälfte der 10er Jahre nahmen ihre filmischen Engagements ab und sie konzentrierte sich wieder vermehrt dem Theater.
Zu
ihren Filmen jener Jahre gehören "The Woman in Politics" (16), "The
City of Illusion" (16), "The Phantom's Secret" (17), "The Hunted Man"
(17), "The Master Spy" (17), "The Claim" (18), "The Midnight Stage"
(19) und "The House of Intrigue" (19).
Anfangs der 20er Jahre
entstanden ihre letzten filmischen Auftritte mit "Mountain Madness"
(20), "The Heart of a Woman" (20) und "Kisses" (22).
Sie war
bekannt dafür, dass sie viele waghalsigen Szenen selber spielte. So
sprang sie aus Fenstern, legte furiose Autofahrten hin und stürzte sich
von Klippen. Auch sportlich betätigte sie sich auf vielen Gebieten.
Mignon
Anderson war mit dem Schauspieler J. Morris Foster verheiratet, mit dem
sie auch regelmässig vor der Kamera stand. Sie hatte die Spitznamen
"Filet Mignon" und "The Midget".
