The actor Henry Ainley began his theater career at Frank Benson and made his debut in the play "Macbeth". Later he also acted at the Herbert Beerbohm Tree company.

He soon became established as a leading interpreter of plays by Shakespeare. He impersonated his first Shakespeare leading role in the theaterplay "Henry V" (1900) and his last Shakespeare role in the movie "As You Like It" (1936).

His first movie came already in 1911 into being with the title "Henry VIII", from 1914 he took part in other movies like "A Bachelor's Love Story" (14), "The Prisoner of Zenda" (15), "The Great Adventure" (15), "The Marriage of William Ashe" (16) and "Quinneys" (19).

In the 20's followed engagements in "The Prince and the Beggarmaid" (21) and "Sally Bishop" (24) before he impersonated his last two roles in front of the camera - the talkies "The First Mrs. Fraser" (32) and "As You Like It" (36).
