The actress Sylvia Torf finished a study for chemistry, philosophy and art history. Shortly afterwards she got married with an opera singer but the marriage became divorced soon again.

She began her career with roles at smaller theaters in Germany and in 1919 she also appeared in her first movie "Seines Bruders Leibeigener" (19).

Sylvia Torf became a busy film actress in the 20s and to her well-known silent movies belong "Weltbrand" (20), "Der Leidensweg der Inge Krafft" (21), "Irrende Seelen" (21), "Die Gezeichneten" (22), "Marie Antoinette" (22), "Die freudlose Gasse" (25), "Die Verrufenen" (25), "Der Student von Prag" (26), "Überflüssige Menschen" (26), "Einer gegen alle" (27),"Kinder der Strasse" (29), "Tagebuch einer Verlorenen" (29) and "S.O.S. Schiff in Not" (29).

Her film career diminished with the rise of the sound film and she only took part in few more movies.
To these works belong "Die Försterchristl" (31), "Die 3 Groschen-Oper" (31), "Bobby geht los" (31) and "Ganovenehre" (33).
