The film composer Friedrich Schröder first studied musical history and church music in Münster. In 1916 he got violin lessons and played in different string quartets. After his move to Berlin in 1929 he continued his studying at he university of music.

When he lost his whole money due to the world economic crisis he dismissed his plan to become a church musician and he worked as a sheet music copist and finally as an arrangeur of the well-knwon film composer Peter Kreuder.

Thank to this work he became acquainted with the word of film and film music and from 1936 he started to compose his first own songs. Only one year later he wrote his first independent film composition for "Sieben Ohrfeigen" (37) with the hit "Ich tanze mir dir in den Himmel hinein", it followed the movies "Weisse Sklaven" (37), "Kleiner Mann - ganz gross!" (38), "Mann für Mann" (39) and "Onkel Fridolin" (39).

Despite his huge success as a composer he had to serve as a soldier in 1941, but one year later he was released again after his great success with the operetta "Hochzeitsnacht im Paradies" (42).

He continued his activities for the film business in the 40s and he wrote among others the music for movies like "Ihr Privatsekretär" (40), "Der Kleinstadtpoet" (40), "Immer nur Du!" (41) with the songs "Die ganze Welt dreht sich um Dich" and "Man müsste Klavier spielen können", "Die grosse Nummer" (43), "Akrobat Schööön!" (43), "Peter Voss, der Millionendieb" (46) - this movie was shot in 1943 but only released after the war - and "Nächte am Nil" (49).

Beside it he also wrote some operettas ("Hochzeitsnacht im Paradies" (42), "Nächte in Shanghai" (47), "Chanel Nr. 5" (47), "Das Bad auf der Tenne" (55), "Die grosse Welt" (51), "Isabella" (54), "Die Jungfrau von Paris" (69)), concerts and an opera.

Friedrich Schröder became the first director of the new radio RIAS in Berlin, in 1957 he became the musical director of the Bertelsmann Schallplattenring and finally he was a co-founder of the well-known record company "Ariola".

But he also continued his engagements for the movies, to his soundtracks belong "Hochzeitsnachts im Paradies" (50), "Hife, ich bin unsichtbar" (51), "Briefträger Müller" (53), "Meine Schwester und ich" (54), "Charleys Tante" (56) and "Es war einmal" (57).

His last cinematical works came in the 60s into being for "Ihr schönster Tag" (62) and "Frühstück im Doppelbett" (63).
