Gregor Rabinovitch

The producer Gregor Rabinovitch (also Gregor Rabinowitsch) grew up in Russia but emigrated to France in the 20s. There he began his film career and he produced first successful movies like "Le prince charmant" (25), "Michel Strogoff" (26), "600'000 francs par mois" (26), "Casanova" (27) and "Muche" (27).

Afterwards he went to Germany where he became a popular producer till 1935. He first worked for the Ufa where he often cooperated with Arnold Pressburger. When their work became more difficult at the Ufa because of the pressure of the National Socialists - Pressburger was a Jew and Rabinovitch even a Jew and a Russian - they founded together the production company "Cine-Allianz Tonfilm GmbH" in 1932.

To the well-known productions of Gregor Rabinovitch belong "Geheimnisse des Orients" (28), "Die wunderbare Lüge der Nina Petrowna" (29), "Manolescu - Der König der Hochstapler" (29), "Dolly macht Karriere" (30), "Im Geheimdienst" (31), "Die Gräfin von Monte-Christo" (32), "Spione am Werk" (33), "Ein Lied für dich" (33), "Leise flehen meine Lieder" (33), "Ihr grösster Erfolg" (34), "Mazurka" (35) and "Episode" (35).

Finally the company of Rabinovitch and Pressburger was liquidated by the National Socialists. Gregor Rabinovitch returned to France where he was able to produce again some movies, among them "Le quai des brumes" (38), "Gibraltar" (38), "Sans lendemain" (39) and "L'enfer des anges" (41).

In the next years followed other productions, among others also in Germany again.
To his last cinematical works belong "Three Russian Girls" (43), "Addio Mimi!" (49), "La leggenda di Faust" (50) and "Die geschiedene Frau" (53).
