. The production designer Ernö Metzner first finished an art study in graphik and art painting in Budapests. He went to Germany in 1920 where he was engaged as a production designer for the movie "Sumurun" (20). In the next years he designed the set for other well-known productions, among the the silent movies "Fridericus Rex, 1. Teil: Sturm und Drang" (22), "Heidelberg" (23), "I.N.R.I." (23), "Geheimnisse einer Seele" (26), "Die Büchse der Pandora" (29), "Tagebuch einer Verlorenen" (29) and "Die weisse Hölle vom Piz Palü" (29). His last cinematical works in Germany came at the beginning of the 30s into being, often for director G.W. Pabst who he met during his work for "Geheimnisse einer Seele" (26). To his movies of those years belong "Westfront 1918: Vier von der Infanterie" (30), "Der Andere" (30), "Die Firma heiratet" (31), "Kameradschaft" (31), "Der unbekannte Gast" (31), "Die Herrin von Atlantis" (32) and "Der Läufer von Marathon" (33). With the rise of the National Socialists he went to England where he continued to work as a production designer for movies like "Princess Charming" (34) and "The Tunnel" (35). He emigrated to the USA in 1936 and he created the set for the productions "Seven Sinners" (36), "The Robber Symphony" (37), "It Happened Tomorrow" (44) and "The Macomber Affair" (47). Besides his activity as a production designer Ernö Metzner also realised several movies as a director with "Naftalin" (27), "Polizeiberich Überfall" (28), "Dein Schicksal" (28) and "Rivalen im Weltrekord" (30). He also created some costumes for movies like "Der Stier von Olivera" (21), "Die Verschwörung zu Genua" (21), "Das Weib des Pharao" (22), "I.N.R.I." (23), "Arabella" (24) and "Ein Sommernachtstraum" (25).
