The actor Albert Lieven made his film debut in 1932 with "Ich bei Tag
und Du bei Nacht" (32) and had a much promising career in front of him
which he confirmed with impressive roles in the movies "Reifende Jugend"
(33), "Charley's Tante" (34), "Krach um Jolanthe" (34) and "Glückspilze"
(35).
But when the National Socialist came into power he fled to England.
There he was able to continue his career but he was often put into action
for one-dimensional scoundrels which weren't a patch on him.
To his English movies belong "Spy for a Day" (39), "Convoy" (40), "Jeannie"
(41), "The Big Blockade" (42) and "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp"
(45).
Albert Lieven continued his career after the war in England as well
as in Germany. Especially in Germany he could act in a whole string of
well-known movies like "Fritz und Friedericke" (52), "Klettermaxe" (52),
"Die Rose von Stambul" (53), "Das Bekenntnis der Ina Kahr" (54), "Des Teufels
General" (55) and "Nacht der Entscheidung" (56).
He experienced again a height in his career in the 60's. Besides movies
like "Die Schachnovelle" (60) and "The Guns of Navarone" (61) he also impersonated
a dubious character in the big hit "Das Halstuch" (62). And with his roles
in the Edgar Wallace movies "Das Geheimnis der gelben Narzissen" (61),
"Das Verrätertor" (64) and "Der Gorilla von Soho" (68)he became well-known
to a new generation.
To his last cinematical works belong "Die Feuerzangenbowle" (70) and
"Die heilige Johanna" (71).
Albert Lieven was married four times, among others with the actresses
Susan Shaw, Valerie White and Petra Peters.
