Ludwig Körner

The actor Ludwig Körner was born as Louis Vivegnis in Grossenbaum.
He began his professional career as a businessman before he became interested in acting. He already was able to play on stage at the Stadttheater in Memel in 1913 for the first time.
In the next years followed engagements in smaller cities like Bamberg, Stralsund and Breslau.

From 1918 he worked at the Berliner Reinhardt-Bühnen, later at the Theater in der Josefstadt where he not only was an actor but also realised some plays as a director. Moreover he was also the deputy manager.

Ludwig Körner became an important official in the world of the theater during the years of National Socialism. Among others he was the deputy manager of the Reichstheaterkammer, from 1938 he was their chairman.

Because of disputes with other office-holder Ludwig Körner was excluded from the NSDAP in 1943.

Besides his actitivy at the theater Ludwig Körner also took part in several silent movies.
To these productions belong „Die Nacht und der Leichnam“ (20), „Napoleon und die kleine Wäscherin“ (20), „Wildnis“ (22) and „Maud, die grosse Sensation“ (23).

He only appeared rarely in front of the camera during the sound film era like „Die Stunde der Versuchung“ (36) and „Die schwarze Robe“ (44).

His last cinematical works came into being after the war with „Der Posaunist“ (49).
He remained active at the theater for several years. First he was the manager of the „Genossenschaft Deutscher Bühnenangestellter“ and later their chairman.
Trotz seiner Vergangenheit im nationalsozialistischen Deutschland wurde Ludwig Körner 1953 mit dem Verdienstkreuz des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ausgezeichnet.
