Lilly Karoly

1885 - 1971

.
.
The actress Lilly Karoly began her theater career in Bielitz and at the beginning of World War I followed engagements at the Theater in der Josefstadt.
She concentrated her stage career in Austria in those years and among others she also acted at the Burgtheater in Vienna.

She already joined the film business in 1914 and her first appearance in front of the camera was "Der Pfarrer von Kirchfeld" (14). One year later followed the silent movie "Dämon Spiel" (15).
In the 20s she only took part in one more movie called "Töte sie!" (22), afterwards she concentrated to the theater exclusively.

When Germany entered Austria in 1938 her stage career came to an end. As a Jew she was no longer able to work on stage.
Only after the war she was able to continue her theater activity at the Burgtheater and she also acted again in movies sporadically.

To her movies of those years belong "Mein Freund, der nicht nein sagen konnte" (49), "Asphalt" (51), "Der erste Frühlingstag" (61) and "Liliom" (63) - a stage performance broadcasted for television.
