René Deltgen

The actor René Deltgen attended the acting school in Cologne from 1927 and learned there among others to speak the German language without an accent (René Deltgen was born in Luxembourg).
From 1929 he got regular engagement at theaters in Cologne and Frankfurt, and the actor Eugen Klöpfer brought him to Berlin where he soon became a popular actor in classical productions.

René Deltgen made his film debut in 1935 with the movie "Das Mädchen Johanna". Because of his agreeable appearance and his intensive performance he soon became a star and impersonated hero roles in action and adventure movies. To his well-known movies of that time belong "Unter heissem Himmel" (36), "Urlaub auf Ehrenwort" (37), "Kautschuk" (38), "Kongo-Express" (39), "Dr .Crippen an Bord" (42) and "Zwischen Nacht und Morgen" (43).
Besides his reckless roles he was also able to impersonate other characters now and then, so in "Die 3 Codonas" (40) an artist who was broken by his conflicts, in "Das grosse Spiel" (42) a football centre and in "Wen die Götter lieben" (42) the composer Ludwig van Beethoven.

After the war he earned his living as a chef de cuisine and as a horse trainer at a circus for the time being. When teamed up with actor Karl John for a topical-satirical program he finally was able to take action as an actor again.
For the present followed engagements at the restored theaters before he became offered a movie role again in 1949.
He took successful part in many productions of the 50's, among them "Torriani" (51), "Das letzte Rezept" (52), "Der letzte Sommer" (54), "Hotel Adlon" (55), "Der Tiger von Eschnapur" (59) and "Das indische Grabmal" (59).

In the 60's were also added works for television and besides it he made a name as Paul Temple for a criminal serial for the Hörfunk, based on the novel of Francis Durbridge.
To his cinematical works of the 60's and 70's belong "Der Gefangene" (62), "Der Sündenbock" (65), "Neues vom Hexer" (65), "Ohrfeigen" (70), "Das Messer" (71), "Mein Onkel Benjamin" (73), "Die Affäre Lerouge" (76), "Gefundenes Fressen" (77) and the serial "Heidi" (78), where he impersonated the grandfather.
