The actress Rosa Albach-Retty made her theater debut in 1891 at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. It followed engagements at the Lessingtheater, from 1894 at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna and from 1903 she belonged to the permanent company at the Burgtheater where she became a honorary member in 1958.

She soon had great successes on stages as a character actress and in the 30's followed the first movies.
She made her film debut with "Geld auf der Strasse" (30). In the following years she appeared sporadically in movies and was convincing in easily remembered support roles like in "Hotel Sacher" (39), "Maria Ilona" (39), "Wen die Götter lieben" (42) and "Wien 1910" (42).

She continued her acting career at the theater and in movies, so in "Maria Theresia" (51), "Der alte Sünder" (51) und "Der Kongress tanzt" (56).

Rosa Albach-Retty got besides other awards the first J.-Kainz medal in 1958.
Her son Wolf Albach-Retty and her granddaughter Romy Schneider went on with the family tradition as successful actors and actresses.
