1949

1977 debütierte er als Filmkomponist für "Full Circle" (77) mit Mia Farrow, es folgten Filmkompositionen für "The Dumb Waiter" (79) und "Live at Oxford Polytechnic" (81).

Als sich die Band 1983 auflöste, wandte sich Colin Towns endgültig der Filmmusik zu und vertonte viele Fernseh- aber auch Kinoproduktionen.
Dazu gehören Filme wie "Born of Fire" (83), "Shadey" (85), "Fellow Traveller" (89), "Vampire's Kiss" (89) und "A Master of the Marionettes" (89).

Daneben fand Colin Towns auch immer mehr Gefallen an der Jazzmusik und Mitte der 90er Jahre grpndete er die Big Band "The Colin Towns Mask Orchestra".

Doch der Film blieb weiterhin zentraler Punkt seiner Laufbahn und er schrieb die Soundtracks zu "The Sandman" (91), "A Question of Guilt" (93), "The Dwelling Place" (94), "The Puppet Masters" (94), "The Wind in the Willows" (95), "The Moth" (97), die Serie "Ivanhoe" (97), "Into the Blue" (97) und "The Dark Room" (99).

Zu seinen jüngsten filmischen Arbeiten zählen "The Secret" (00), "Complicity" (00), "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby" (01), "Goodbye, Mr. Chips" (02), "Les rivières pourpres II - Les anges de l'apocalypse" (04), "Double zéro" (04), "Mon ange" (04), "Cold Blood" (05), "Ghostboat" (06), "Half Broken Things" (07), "Albert Schweitzer" (09), "Am Kreuzweg" (11), eine Episode der Serie "Tatort: Borowski und die Rückkehr des stillen Gastes" (15), "Das Nebelhaus" (17) und die Serie "Der Usedom-Krimi" (14-19).

Neben der Filmmusik schrieb Colin Towns auch für viele Theaterstücke die Musik, u.a. "Popcorn", "Jane Eyre" und "Hamlet".
