The actor Alain Cuny wanted to become a physicist but than he changed
to the art school in Paris and learned the profession of a painter.
During his study he earned his money as a costume designer for directors
like Jacques Feyder.
Alain Cuny decided at the end of the 30's to become an actor and he
played first at different theaters before he took part in his first movies.
To his first movies belong "Madame Sans-Gêne" (41), "Remorques"
(41) and "Le baron fantôme" (43).
He continued his career after the war and he became a much demanded
support actor who appeared in French as well as Italian productions.
Alain Cuny acted in the 50's and 60's in the movies "La signora senza
camelie" (53), "Adrienne Mesurat" (53), "Notre Dame de Paris" (56), "Les
amants" (58) as well as in Federico Fellini's "La dolce vita" (60) and
"Satyricon" (69).
Television became a more important part in his career from the 70's.
Alain Cuny had the good fortune to be able to work as an actor till
briefly to his death.
To his last movies belong "Il maestro e Margherita" (72), "Touche pas
à la femme blanche" (74), "Emmanuelle" (74), "Caro Michele" (76),
"Semmelweis" (80), "Il corsaro" (83), "L'année terrible" (85), "Das
weite Land" (87), "Camille Claudel" (88) - for which he was nominated for
the César, "Le retour de Casanova" (92) and "La famiglia Ricordi"
(94).
