Joseph
Biroc was born in New York in 1903. He started his profession at
the beginning of the 30s as a camera assistant, before he became chief
cameraman in the middle of the 40s. His second film „It‘s a Wonderful Life“
(46) became one of the most famous classics which is televised especially
during Christmas time at nearly each American TV station.
In the 50s and 60s he became a very busy cinematographer, in the
70s and 80s a lot of TV productions came along. His career was crowned
with the win of the Oscar in 1975 for „The Towering Inferno" after he was
already nominated for the statue in 1965.
