Dennis Neilson-Terry

The actor Dennis Neilson-Terry was born into an artistic family. His father Fred Terry and his mother Julia Neilson were well-known stage actors and his sister Phyllis Neilson-Terry became a popular actress too.

Although his parents hoped for a profession as a jurist for her son he decided to become an actor and from now on he could count on the support of his parents.
He played among others the character Armand St. Just in the play "The Scarlet Pimpernel".
Beside it he asserted as a Shakespeare actor at the same time, especially with his role as Romeo he was very successful.

He made his film debut in 1917 with "Her Greatest Performance", but his appearances in front of the camera kept seldom.
Other productions were "Masks and Faces" (18), "Desire" (20), "The House of the Arrow" (30) and "Murder at Covent Garden" (32).

Dennis Neilson-Tery died at the age 37 during a theater tour in South Africa.
He was married with the actress Mary Glynne.
